We were delighted to have Ms Valerie Saw join us for a talk and Q&A session on eye care for people with pemphigoid and pemphigus on 17th May 2021

 

Valerie Saw is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Imperial College NHS. Prior to this, she was at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

 

Ms Saw is a Council Member and Treasurer of the British Society of Refractive Surgery (BSRS) and an Examiner and Committee Member for the Royal College of Ophthalmologist’s Certification in Laser Refractive Surgery.

As well as her experience as a surgeon, she is also an expert in managing blepharitis, dry eye, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid and contact lens problems.

Ms Saw is also a member of the American, European and UK and Ireland Societies of Refractive Surgery, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association and the UK Bowman Corneal Club. She is a member of International Sjogren’s Syndrome Registry Review Panel (SICCA) and medical advisor for the Dry Eyes Medical website.

In addition to her clinical practice, Ms Saw is a Clinical Lecturer at the University College London (UCL) Moorfields Institute of Ophthalmology, where she did her PhD on the most severe form of dry eye, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid (mucous membrane pemphigoid). Her PhD thesis was awarded the Research Medal at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and an Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Travel Grant.
